Baby Needs-A-Name is the nickname that the titular character of Strawberry Shortcake and the Baby Without a Name possesses, due to her lack of a name. Her voice actress is Monica Parker.

General Information[]

"Baby Needs-A-Name" was the final baby character released in the original Strawberry Shortcake series in the 1980s. She played the titular role in the Strawberry Shortcake and the Baby Without a Name, the fifth special. She originated as a "berry special" doll and did not receive a name so that those who purchased her could name her instead. Originally under the watchful eye of Peach Blush, she returned to Strawberryland with her and the new Plum Puddin', who the others went to pick up at the trolley station. In addition to wanting a name, the baby also wanted a pet of her own. This part of her wish list was fulfilled during the TV special, when she met and befriended Fig Boot, a strange-but-gentle creature that everyone thought was a monster.

Personality[]

Like a few other of the young characters, Baby is one of the more "matured" ones in that she can speak, walk, and so forth. She is very sweet and gentle and never acts poorly. Since she is so cute and bubbly, a lot of people enjoy her company. She is also shown to not easily be scared, as she finds Strawberry Shortcake's ghost stories funny and befriends a monster, as well as agreeable and loving, saying she loves everything even if she doesn't know what it is. She can often be seen giggling after saying things.

Appearance[]

Baby Needs-A-Name is a fair-pale skinned girl with short, curly blonde hair and blue eyes. On her head sits a pink bonnet with a striped bow on top and a white flowery-cut rim. She wears a pink and white striped dress with a small fruity icon on her chest resembling a pineberry, along with striped bloomers and baby booties. Like the rest, she had minor differences in the specials. Mainly the striped detailing of her outfit being stripped away, like so many others. The sleeves and skirt of her outfit are turned and a very pale pink color.

Trivia[]

  • The "Blow-Kiss" baby doll of Baby Needs-A-Name released by Kenner in 1984 featured a ID bracelet for the doll and had a sticker sheet of labels suggesting names for her. The options were Candy Kiss, Cutie Fruity, Kissletoe, and Lullaberry Pie.
  • A Strawberry Shortcake Coloring Book from the same period featured a page where the baby introduced herself as "Lullaberry", so it would seem that the issue of her namelessness was indeed settled. This naming also answers the question of the pink strawberry-like fruit on the front of the baby's jumper.
  • A Lullaberry appears to be a fictional fruit created for the character, combining the words "Lullaby" and "Berry".
  • Baby Needs-A-Name was not issued as a 3-5/8" scented doll, in the scale of the vast 5-1/2" Strawberry Shortcake doll line of the 1980s. But Baby's pet, the oversized purple "monster" Fig Boot, was.
