Fillies existed in the 2003 Series franchise, though there was a horse introduced back in the 80s era. The concept of fillies was introduced with the DVD "Adventures on Ice Cream Island" which had two horse themed episodes. There were only two episodes dedicated to the fillies, none appeared in other episodes except Milkshake in "Big Country Fun". But they continued to appear in books throughout the franchise's history. Each kid was given a horse companion designed with a similar dessert aspect. The fillies were more like best friends than pets, as they did not live at each dessert girl's house, they roamed free. The filly toys were a direct competitor with the popular at the time G3 My Little Ponies. Many people preferred Strawberryland Fillies as their horse toy, since they had poseable legs and patterns realistic to horses such as paint and palomino. Later Strawberry Shortcake ponies would take on a more My Little Pony-like appearance with larger heads and legs no longer being posable under the Playmates Company.

Honey Pie Pony[]

A talking palomino horse (and the only horse on the series that could talk) who was introduced with the franchise's revival. She had major roles in the Season one specials, especially Berry Merry Christmas. Honey Pie Pony is a chatterbox who likes to ramble about anything, often leading to meandering monologues on her extensive travels of the world. Honey Pie is prone to exaggerating the truth, however, which makes her surprise at learning of the existence of a whole island of fillies (Ice Cream Island) nearby to Strawberryland a bit more understandable. No one can really confirm nor deny how much traveling she has actually done. Honey Pie is also picky about who can ride on her back; Strawberry Shortcake is her rider of choice though other kids like Orange Blossom have ridden her. Honey Pie has a friend/pet bee called Honey Doodle. Honey Pie Pony was in many episodes from season one to season three. Her absence was explained in a "Friendship Club" Chapter book, explaining that before Season 4 she moved away to Ice Cream Island. She is voiced by Hannah Koslosky.

Cookie Dough[]

Cookie Dough is a paint pony with a dark brown man with blue highlights. She is known as the slowest of the fillies, owing to her inability to refrain from stopping to nibble every sweet thing that crosses her path. She and Ginger Snap get along famously especially because of this, for Ginger Snap is seldom without a cookie to share. A cream-colored filly decorated with tan and brown speckles, Cookie Dough's dark brown mane and tail were augmented later in the toy line with streaks of indigo.

Milkshake[]

Milkshake is a very jumpy, timid filly. Her white coat is speckled with bright pink polka dots, and her frothy, super curly mane and tail are also pink. Milkshake's habit of running from her many fears has made her the fastest filly around. With positive reinforcement and encouragement from her human ally, Angel Cake, Milkshake has made strides towards overcoming her nervous nature. She is an elegant, girly pony, like Angel Cake. While every other girl seems to be assigned a filly already at the ranch, in Big Country Fun, Angel Cake seems to have brought Milkshake.

Orange Twist[]

Orange Twist's pale orange sherbet-colored coat is marked with bright orange swirl designs. Her bright blonde mane and tail are streaked with orange as well. She is generally a skittish filly, jumping and bucking when most people attempt to ride her because she is too shy and nervous. Orange Blossom, though, is NOT most people. Orange Blossom's shy and sweet nature has a disarming effect on Orange Twist, making her calm and agreeable. Orange Blossom was temporarily scared of riding after falling off Orange Twist and they had a 'fight'... well as close as a horse and a human can get to having a fight, but they made up and became friends again to save the others.

Cherry Vanilla[]

Cherry Vanilla is paired with Peppermint Fizz, and this sweet and loving horse is one of the few things that makes her grumpy companion a berry happy kid! A deep pink filly with red speckles and a vivid red mane and tail, Cherry Vanilla is said to be the sweetest natured of the Ice Cream Island fillies, as she attempts to compensate for the often-sour nature of her human counterpart. Strawberry Shortcake is sometimes paired with Cherry Vanilla in the toy line, since Cherry's colors match Strawberry more than her own pony, Honey Pie does. The fact that they are paired together also shows that Strawberry and Peppermint are friends even if Peppermint tries to deny it. Peppermint Fizz rode Cherry Vanilla in a French exclusive book.

Blueberry Sundae[]

Blueberry Sundae was planned to be introduced as part of Bandai's "Filly Parade" line of toy horses but was not actually released as a toy until the final wave of "Fantasy Sparkle" fillies. A filly dappled in bright shades of blue with white legs and mane and tail, Blueberry Sundae is said to be very vain about her striking appearance and will stop in her tracks to admire her reflection whenever she encounters it. Blueberry Sundae made a short appearance on the episode "Horse of a Different Color", over 4 episodes before her owner, Blueberry Muffin, was introduced.

Huckleberry Hash[]

Huckleberry Hash Toy

Huckleberry Hash was introduced seemingly as an afterthought, towards the end of Bandai's run of producing Strawberry Shortcake Toys. A medium blue filly dotted with lighter and darker blue spots; Huckleberry Hash was merchandised as part of the "Fantasy Sparkles" filly line and came wearing a pair of large blue fabric fairy wings. Huckleberry Hash is obviously, Huckleberry Pie's companion. Huckleberry Hash's gender is undetermined.

Spumoni[]

A curiously coated filly, colored in large, swirled swatches of pink, green and brown, like the multi-colored ice cream for which she is named, Spumoni has a lush dark brown mane and tail, which perfectly matches Coco Calypso's hair. Like most of the Ice Cream Island fillies, who received nothing in the way of storyline or development from the animated shows, the only information on Spumoni's character comes from the packaging of her toy, which states that she likes to have her mane braided.

Pistachio[]

Pistachio is a free-spirited horse teamed with Seaberry Delight, and loves to splash in the ocean waves just as much as her human friend. Her coat, mane and tail are all creamy shades of green with dark green speckles. Though for some reason, on some but not all of the produced toys, the head of Bandai's toy Pistachio is a much darker green than the rest of her.

Butter Pecan[]

Butter Pecan is an adventurous filly who likes being groomed and who loves to travel. Her coat is a warm tan, dotted with brown specks and streaked with unusual brown zebra-like stripes. Her mane and tail are bright yellow. Her human companion is Rainbow Sherbet, with whom she shares NO aspects of color coordination.

Lemon Ice[]

Lemon Ice and Raspberry Ripple (below) share something in common with Cherry Vanilla, in that they were marketed without benefit of having a kid character counterpart to ride them. Dolls of said counterparts Lemon Meringue and Raspberry Torte were said to be in the works as the final wave of Bandai's "Fantasy Sparkle" fillies were released (in a limited market), but the Strawberry Shortcake license passed from Bandai to PlayMates before this could come to pass. PlayMate's initial Strawberry Shortcake "Flavor Swirl" Wave included dolls of both Lemon Meringue and Raspberry Torte, but their filly friends from Bandai were long gone by then. Lemon Meringue has since been aligned with a new Playmates pony named Daffodil.

Raspberry Ripple[]

Raspberry Ripple is a dazzling fuchsia pink color, swirled through with "ripples" of bright white on her face, legs and hindquarters. Like Lemon Ice (above), her toy was released in very limited quantities, in Bandai's final "Fantasy Sparkles" wave of fillies. She's a stranger looking filly, with markings that look similar to a skunk. In the artwork she has an identical ponytail to her owner and also sports a green visor.

Ambrosia[]

Ambrosia is perhaps the most obscure horse in a list of many fairly obscure horses. Never featured on Strawberry Shortcake's animated TV show, nor ever produced as a toy, Ambrosia is a magical unicorn depicted in the book "Berry Princess". In the book, Strawberry and friends are told by a magic mirror that Ambrosia is lost in a maze in the forest and can only be rescued by the Berry Princess. Strawberry Shortcake successfully rescues Ambrosia, implying that she is indeed the Berry Princess. Ambrosia is the third horse Strawberry gets paired with. Others include Honey Pie, Cherry Vanilla, and lastly, an unnamed dark magenta horse in Big Country Fun.

Buttercup[]

The Berry Prairie Dude Ranch was stocked with enough ponies to accommodate two teams of four "dude" visitors, as well as hired hands Strawberry Shortcake and Angel Cake and ranch owner Annie Oatmeal. Of nearly a dozen ponies on hand, a mere few had their names mentioned. Surprisingly, the bright pink pony rode by Strawberry Shortcake was not named, but "Ol' Buttercup", who was paired with Blueberry Muffin on Strawberry Shortcake's team, was. Buttercup has a dark brown coat like Blueberry Muffin's hair, blue eyes also like her human counterpart, and a yellow mane with braids. Sunflower[]

Apricot was assigned to Sunflower, a pretty white pony with a peach-colored mane during her stay at The Berry Prairie Dude Ranch. Sunflower was billed simply as "Apricot's Pony" when she was released as part of the "Sugar Sweet Ponies" line of PlayMates toys, the same wave that included horses for Strawberry Shortcake, Angel Cake, and Crepes' Suzette, the last of whom was not included in the "Big Country Fun" animated DVD adventures.

Daffodil[]

One of merely two Playmates-era ponies to have both a toy AND a name, Daffodil is a sunny yellow color. Dubbed "Lemon Meringue's Pony" by Playmates, Daffodil was released as part of the "Big Country Fun"-aligned "Picnic Pie Ponies" wave. Thunder[]

While the other ponies introduced in the "Big Country Fun" DVD were named after various flowers, the pony that Annie Oatmeal matched with perennial newcomer Plum Puddin' was called Thunder. A deep purple pony with a cropped lavender mane and tail, Thunder was referred to both as he AND she during the course of the adventure, not unlike their trans human companion.

Maple Stirrup[]

Maple Stirrup Toy

A lesser-known horse in the franchise, Maple Stirrup, was released as a toy with a buggy and is seldom seen in artwork. Maple Stirrup in toy form is tan with green hair, brown eyes, and green hooves. In artwork they are a darker brown with striped hair and hooves resembling the likes of Pupcake and Huckleberry Pie. Their eyes are also brown in artwork. They appeared in the 2003 game "Ice Cream Island Riding Camp" and is recorded as the first official filly of the franchise. Currently there isn't a specified gender for this horse as no pronouns have been used and even male horses have been referred to as fillies in the series.

Horseradish[]

A blue horse briefly seen in the 1980s-episode Strawberry Shortcake in Big Apple City carrying the girls to the great bake off. He has a much goofier and skinnier look compared to other horses throughout the franchise. He has three blue spots on his hip and an orange flower hat. His personality is for the most part unknown, but is helpful and funny in what little screentime he had.

Dobbin[]

A horse shown pulling Purple Pieman's carriage in the 2007 era of the series. Dobbin is deep dark purple with white face markings and wears a light purple chef hat much like Pieman. Dobbin hasn't had much screen time of his own, but often appears tired and unhappy with droopy eyes.

Unnamed Horses and Ponies[]

Unnamed Horses and Ponies is a broad category including toys and cartoon appearances. The horses being unnamed can cause problems for identification and make it easy to mistake one horse for another. Here's a list of the horses and where they're from:

  • Yellow horse, pink mane - Big Country Fun (2008). Assigned to Banana Candy.
  • Deep magenta horse, light pink mane - Big Country Fun (2008). Assigned to Strawberry Shortcake.
  • White horse, orange mane - Big Country Fun (2008). Assigned to Annie Oatmeal.
  • Light purple horse, deep purple mane - Big Country Fun (2008). Assigned to Rainbow Sherbet.
  • Brown horse, orange mane - Big Country Fun (2008). Assigned to Tangerina Torta.
  • White horse, magenta mane - Big Country Fun (2008). Assigned to Watermelon Kiss.
  • Yellow pony, red mane - Sugar Sweet Ponies toy line (2006 era, can't find specific date at this time but the company who made this line took up the series at this time). Assigned to Strawberry Shortcake. Worth noting a near identical horse was released in the Picnic Pie Ponies line, the main difference being pink hooves.
  • Lavender Pony, soft pink mane - Sugar Sweet Ponies toy line (2006 era). Assigned to Crepes Suzette.
  • Light orange, pink mane, white snout - Sugar Sweet Ponies toy line (2006 era). Assigned to Apricot.
  • Light brown, blonde mane, white snout - Sugar Sweet Ponies toy line (2006 era). Assigned to Angel Cake.
  • Light yellow, yellow mane - Picnic Pie Ponies (2006 era). Assigned to lemon meringue, seemingly to replace the previous idea of Lemon Ice.
