Coco Calypso is a character from the 2003 series.
General[]
Coco Calypso was first introduced in the episode, The Mystery of Seaberry Beach, in which she was a faraway friend of Strawberry Shortcake and enlisted Strawberry's help because her seaberry harvests are stolen. In the end, it turned out to be a misunderstanding between her and neighbor Seaberry Delight, who she becomes best friends with. Coco is voiced by Melissa Deni.
Personality[]
Coco's personality is fun-loving, friendly, and adventurous. She is musically talented and likes playing songs on her ukulele. She is resourceful, handy, and hard-working, as she is able to live far away from other people on a jungle beach. She harvests her own food and has built herself multiple huts. She's very social, and she thought she'd enjoy living alone, but it turns out peace and quiet wasn't what she wanted. She wants a friend, her only one was Strawberry Shortcake and she lives far away. So then, when all the girls trap Seaberry and find out she is a girl and not a beast or mermaid, Strawberry matches them together and they are super close now, they live together in the beach homes and spend all day playing in the surf and sand.
Appearance[]
Coco Calypso is possibly Caribbean, referenced by her name including "calypso" in it, which is a type of tropical music that began in Trinidad and Tobago. She has dark skin, dark brown eyes, and long brown wavy hair with a braid with a flower. She wears a green tropical print bucket hat, the same print pants, a yellow tank top, and pink flip-flops. She has a floral anklet. As a mermaid her tail is orange.
Pet[]
Her pet is a parrot called Papaya and voiced by Susie Collins. Papaya is shown to be dramatic and worrisome, as well as being very talkative. Papaya is green with a lime green head and wings and what appears to be an orange hat with a pink brim and a yellow flower. In the Fillies of the same era, she's paired with a horse named Spumoni, though is never seen with her in the cartoons.
Trivia[]
- She is currently the only character with a more "normal" surname, since it isn't based on foods or flowers.
- In her Playmates "Beach Sweeties" doll she's scented with coconuts and pineapples.
- She is another character with possibly two themes, being Coconut themed in name and flower themed in design.
- Papaya shares similarities with Lime Chiffon's parrot, Parfait.
