Strawberry Shortcake Wiki

With his backward ball cap and homemade skateboard, Huckleberry Pie is all boy. He lives in the middle of a scary, overgrown place called Huckleberry Briar. His house is a tree fort with lookout ports, skateboard ramps, and secret entrances. He loves going on adventures. He likes Strawberry and her other friends, too, and will often zoom over to visit them on his skateboard.
~ Description from the official 2003 website.

Huckleberry Pie is the main, but not only, male character from the Strawberry Shortcake franchise. In some franchise versions he was the only male, like in 2002 and 2009.

General Information[]

1980[]

Huckleberry is one of Strawberry Shortcake's friends from Strawberryland. He's often seen interacting with Blueberry Muffin and Raspberry Tart, along with his puppy Pupcake. He's often seen napping or fishing and takes inspirations from Huckleberry Finn.

2002[]

Huckleberry Pie is one of the original characters of the Strawberry Shortcake Franchise. Huckleberry Pie is one of Strawberry Shortcake's friends, who lives in a childish fort in a brambly forest near Strawberry Shortcake's house. He is an avid skateboarder. He typically opts out of many activities the girls do unless they are sports-related. In the 1980's series, he was the original owner of Pupcake. Because his original pet became Strawberry's in the 2002 series, he got a new pet, a frog named Shoofly. Besides skateboarding, the only other hobby he has shown interest in is magic tricks.

2009[]

Unlike the others, he doesn't permanently live in Berry Bitty City, but he does often drive by for a visit using his traveling "Huck's Pup Mobile". He plans to open a place called "Huckleberry's Home For Pets". His theme colors seem to be dark blue oriented, while his icon is three blue colored berries put together. Huckleberry Pie is one of the newest characters welcome to Berry Bitty City! He is also the only boy so far on the show, though this doesn't mean the girls plan to treat him any differently. With the desire to be loved by all, Huckleberry tends to claim to be into the same things they are, so that he'll be liked. After he and Blueberry Muffin make a promise, he begins to act like his true self soon after.

2021[]

Huckleberry Pie is an energetic, impulsive, scrappy, unsophisticated, and goofy tween boy. He is a guitarist, and his "job" is he plays his guitar on the street for money. He has a passion for music, and claims that he plays for all his ‘fans’ that he does not have. He eats very ravenously, claiming that ‘his second passion is eating’, his passion for eating is also the reason he followed Lime Chiffon and Strawberry Shortcake in the first place. He is also very messy and clumsy. He seems to be poor since his only Christmas gift to offer is a song. He also might be homeless based on his behaviors, especially how he hangs out at the Berryworks without a truck and Bread Pudding tries to kick him out. He tries to be kind and helpful to his friends. He is very knowledgeable about every nook and cranny of the city.

Personality[]

1980[]

His personality in the 80s iteration is decently different from his other versions. He is a country-type boy, who likes taking it slow and is never in a rush for anything. He's lazy and rarely enthusiastic. He's often blunt or uninterested as well, speaking in a slow manner and not biting his tongue when it comes to his thoughts.

2002[]

Huckleberry Pie is a sporty and adventurous boy who's not easily frightened. He knows his way around places well and likes spending a lot of time just exploring on his own, though is never away from his friends for long. It can be assumed that he keeps a similar personality as a teenager though we don't see as much of him.

2009[]

A friendly, perky young boy with a lot of inexperience when it comes to befriending others. Huckleberry Pie tries very hard to get things done or be liked by others. While he does learn to just be himself, he can't help but try brand new things in hopes of making more friends or learning to bond. Due to his love of animals (mainly dogs) and his career in mind, it's implied he has an easier time just being himself with animals best, as well as possibly hinting that he grew up rather lonely.

Despite being surrounded by girls, Huckleberry doesn't seem to mind their girly activities and does/tries everything with a non-judgemental mind. He cares deeply for the berry bunch and is usually always in an upbeat mood. He also knows how to have a good time, even if he's kinda klutzy. While Huck may come off really goofy he takes very serious care of everything he holds close and he will do whatever he can to pay you back if you help him in any shape or form.

2002[]

He wears ordinary blue or red sneakers. Later he gets an outfit similar to 2009 and then wears a red cap properly, facing forward.

Relationships[]

Strawberry: Strawberry is very close to Huckleberry, and is his second best friend. She always tries to include him in the fun, even if he is being stubborn. They sort of had a brother and sisterly relationship in the 80s and 2002. In the 2021 series, he first meets her in a subway and helps her around when she's lost. He loves her baking and is one of her biggest fans, and he often begs for free food or gets to taste test.

Blueberry Muffin: Blueberry is Huckleberry's good friend in many generations. They don't talk often but seem to share similar interests in 2021, like music, going with the flow and spontaneity, and weird foods. They do interact in a few episodes, such as Huck’s New Job and Traffic Jam. In the 2003 series they were neighbors, living in the same woods. The book The Little Mermaid portrayed them as siblings in the book.

Orange Blossom: In 2003, Huckleberry plays with Orange a lot. They both like sporty things like climbing trees. In some instances, he is seen hanging out with just her at her treehouse.

Angel Cake: Huckleberry and Angel Cake don't often interact unless it is in a group setting. They are mostly opposite personalities. Angel Cake is prim and proper, neat, and a perfectionist and Huckleberry is a messy, unorganized, rowdy boy. Angel Cake often gets annoyed by Huck and nags and fusses at him.

Ginger Snap|Ginger Snap:]] Ginger Snap is a best friend of Huckleberry's, she is tomboyish and they like a lot of the same games to play.

Peppermint Fizz: Huckleberry does not like Peppermint Fizz and doubts her ability to be a good friend even though she's trying to improve her social skills. He thinks she sucks at playing music and even makes a mean plan to sabotage her instruments!

Cherry Jam: Cherry Jam and Huckleberry were friends for a small amount of time, but then she was upset and mad at him for stealing her lucky charm! They made up, but they still don't interact often anymore, they aren't the best of friends.

Bread Pudding: At first, Bread Pudding didn't like Huck's loitering around the Berryworks, as he was playing music without permission or a business, and getting free food from the girls' trucks. But they soon got along and bonded over their love of karaoke, or Berryoke. As the only two boys, they are often with each other or talking. They have their own episode, Deliveryberries.

Caramella Eclair: Caramella is Huckleberry's friend before he meets Strawberry, Blueberry, Lemon, etc. They are both characters that spend a lot of time out on the streets and alleys, which is probably why they became friends.

Pets[]

In 1980, Huckleberry Pie owned Pupcake (who in later series, became Strawberry's dog). In 2003, he owned a frog named Shoofly. In 2009, he owned a different dog, this time named Tom Tom. In the 2021 series, he owns a ferret named Red Hot who is often mistaken for a rat.

Trivia[]

  • Huckleberry Pie was named after Mark Twain's literary creation Huckleberry Finn. In addition, Huck bore more than a passing resemblance to Huckleberry Finn in the 1980s series, from his straw hat and overalls to his tendencies towards fishing and general laziness.
  • The Wizard of Oz in Berry Brick Road has Huckleberry Pie's look.
  • Huckleberry's pet dog in the 2009 series, Tom Tom, might be named after Tom Sawyer.
  • In the 2009 series only, Huckleberry has a crush on Blueberry Muffin. They both love mystery books
  • Huckleberry Pie was, for the most part, the only boy character in a female-dominated franchise. He is also the only one to remain in the series. (There was a boy named Plum Puddin', but that character was cut and replaced with the one who was a girl, that was reverted to a boy.)
    • He is also one of the two main boys of the franchise, the other is Plum Puddin'.
  • In the 2003 series, Huckleberry Pie had been voiced by Daniel Canfield for the first four episodes, before being replaced by James Street. Sadly, on July 4th, 2007, James Street would die in a skateboarding accident. Daniel Canfield was brought back to reprise the character for the rest of the series.
