Strawberry Shortcake Wiki

Lem and Ada are characters from the Strawberry Shortcake franchise, making their sole appearance in the 1980's episode Strawberry Shortcake: Housewarming Surprise.

General Information[]

Lem and Ada (a pun on lemonade) are twin brother and sister, from England's "Pickle-Dilly Circus", a parody of Piccadilly Circus. Although their size is the same as other babies in the series, the twins seemed to be especially precocious. Not only did they speak quite well, they even finished each other's sentences. Although it is fairly obvious by looking at them which twin is Lem and which is Ada, apparently telling them apart was problematic for those who lived in Strawberryland. Only their pet sheepdog Sugar Woofer seemed to know their identities for sure.

Personality[]

Although the same size as other babies and toddlers in the series, the twins seemed to be especially precocious. Despite being so young the twins can speak formally and quite well, and are known for finishing each others sentences. This implies that the twins may be pretty smart, as they are also capable of doing the tasks other young ones cannot. Though, they still crawl sometimes. The two of them speak with english slang and accents, though not as strongly as T.N Honey, another English character of the 1980s.

Appearance[]

Lem N Ada are twin a brother and sister. They both share the same physical features and hair color/style, but can be told apart by their hair accessories. Ada wears a green and gold bow whose length matches the width of her head, while Lem wears a green hat that is about half the size of his head. Both wear low green and white striped socks with a white and orange bib with a lemon on it, Lem's being golden-orange while Ada's bright yellow. Their outfits are also the same, but reversed in coloring. Lem wears a white top with red spots and a white bottom piece with gold lines all over it, while Ada wears a white and gold line top and white and red bottom article of clothing. The TV episode gives them a short-sleeved shirt and a diaper each; Lem has a white shirt and yellow diaper and his hat is around 1/3 the size of his head, and Ada has a yellow shirt and white diaper with her hair bow being around 5/6 as long (from end to end) as her head is wide.

Trivia[]

  • Etymology: Lem N Ada's name is based on "Lemonade". Sugar Woofer may have earned his from sugar wafer cookies and the "woof" onomatopoeia representing a dog's bark.
  • Irony: Despite the audience being able to tell who was who due to certain differences, for the folks of Strawberryland, telling these two apart could be pretty problematic and only Sugar Woofer could tell in-series.
  • Lem is the ninth male character from the 1980s series who was not a pet after Mr. Sun, the Peculiar Purple Pieman, Escargot the snail, Huckleberry Pie, Plum Puddin' (The 2003 and Berry Bitty versions were female.), Flitter-Bit the butterfly, Tamale the mole, and Coco Nutwork.
  • Lem and Ada are the first two baby characters to speak in the franchise, not counting writing. (Apple Dumplin' did not speak at all in her original incarnation (communicating through writing instead), but gained the ability to do so in the 2003 series, while Apricot said only single, complex words.) Two other baby characters who predated Lem and Ada are Cherry Cuddler and Butter Cookie. Lem and Ada are also overall the fifth and sixth baby characters in the franchise, their successor being the baby from Strawberry Shortcake and the Baby Without a Name and the predecessors being the aforementioned four.
  • They are two of a few berries [currently] without surnames, others being Apricot, and Banoffee.
